How Do I Save?

Three main factors determine how much more you will save on your renewal with Plug’n SAVE



Rapid acceleration increases the risk of being involved in an accident. While your device does not track speeding, it does monitor events of rapid acceleration. If you accelerate faster than 12km/h in 1 second, your device will consider this to be rapid. To maximize your discount, avoid accelerating too quickly.



Hard braking also increases the risk of being involved in an accident. If your speed decreases at a rate of more than 12km/h in less than 1 second, this is considered hard braking. To maximize your discount, keep a safe distance from the car in front of you and stay alert.

Time of Day

Time of day

Driving at night (between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m.) increases the risk of being involved in an accident. Your Plug’n SAVE device will evaluate the time of day that you most frequently use your vehicle to determine your personalized time of day discount. The less you drive between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m. the more you could save!

How do I sign up for Plug 'n SAVE?

What happens after I sign up?

You will receive a welcome package in the mail including your Plug’n SAVE device and an easy to follow installation guide. Simply plug the device into the OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port in your vehicle and start driving! After 30 days of driving, you will be able to access your driving data and potential savings online.

How much does it cost to get a device?

The Plug’n SAVE device is absolutely free! We want you to save money, not pay more! There is no cost to you, no risk, and your premium cannot increase as a result of the data collected. You really have nothing to lose, except a few dollars off your premium!

What if I change my mind? Can I opt out?

Yes. The Plug’n SAVE device is completely optional and you may opt out at any time. Your insurance policy will not be cancelled if you decide you no longer want your device. Of course, we will have to remove your enrolment discount.

Am I eligible?

Can the Plug'n SAVE device be installed in any car?

The Plug’n SAVE device works with most cars model year 1998 or newer. Cars manufactured prior to 1998 do not have the necessary OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port which is also used for vehicle diagnostics. To find out if the Plug’n SAVE device will work in your vehicle, please call us at 1-888-234-3247.

What if I have more than one vehicle?

Each Plug’n SAVE device is connected to only one vehicle. So, if you have more than one vehicle, you can choose to have a device installed in any or all of your cars; it’s up to you. Discounts will be applied based on the individual driving data of the specific vehicle.

How do I install the device?

It’s easy! The device just plugs into the OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port located under the steering column in your vehicle. Refer to your welcome package for instructions or call us at 1-888-234-3247.

Can I unplug the device?

The Plug’n SAVE device should stay connected to your car at all times. If unplugged frequently or for an extended period of time, you may no longer be eligible for further discounts. If you have questions, give us a call at 1-888-234-3247.

Who do I call if I have problems with my device?

Don’t worry. If you have any issues or your device stops working, just call us at 1-888-234-3247 and we’ll send you a new one!

Will the device work outside of Ontario?

The Plug’n SAVE device works throughout Canada and the United States. You can access your driving data at any time by logging into your personal online dashboard.

What if I damage or lose my device?

Don’t worry! Give us a call at 1-888-234-3247 to let us know and we will send you a new one.

How do I check my discounts?

You can access your personal driving dashboard online 24/7. Having trouble understanding the information online? Give us a call and we’ll be glad to help. We can even make suggestions to help you save more!

How long before I see my discounts online?

After you plug in your device and drive for at least 30 days, your driving data and potential savings will be available on your personal online dashboard. Information is updated in real time and you will receive periodic updates and tips to help you save even more! When it’s time for your renewal, your discount will be applied for the following year.

What if I have to brake hard to avoid an accident? Will that reduce my discount?

The Plug’n SAVE device looks for frequency of events and regular driving behaviour. We know that even the best drivers have to brake hard occasionally. So it doesn’t necessarily mean that if you brake hard once, your discount will be reduced. Remember, the most important thing is your safety. If you need to brake to avoid an accident, make sure you do!

What if I'm involved in an accident?

Accidents are not taken into consideration when calculating your personalized discount. However, claims may still have an impact on your insurance premium, as per your standard insurance policy. If you have questions about your policy or premium, please contact us at 1-888-234-3247.

Is my privacy safe?

Will the information collected be shared with other insurance companies?

The Plug’n SAVE device enables us to determine your eligibility for discounts. We will only use and disclose your personal information in accordance with the program, unless otherwise required by law (i.e., subpoena, police investigation, etc.), and will not disclose any collected data to third parties, except to our authorized agents/employees, brokers and telematics service providers, as required for the purpose of providing you with continuous service. We are committed to protecting your privacy, and we will do our utmost to ensure that the Personal Information of every client is safeguarded properly.

Can my policy be cancelled based on the information collected?

Absolutely not! The focus of Plug’n SAVE is to reward you with additional savings for your good driving habits. Your policy can not be cancelled based on data collected by the device and the data can not be used to increase your premium.

Can my premium increase based on the data collected?

Absolutely not! Your premium will never increase as a result of the data collected by your Plug’n SAVE device. In fact, you can save as much as an additional 25% on your renewal based on your good driving habits. There’s really nothing to lose!

What if I cancel my policy?

Obviously we don’t want you to leave, but we understand. We’ll send you a postage paid envelope so you can send the device back to us…No hard feelings!

What if someone else drives my car?

The Plug’n SAVE device is linked to the vehicle and does not consider individual drivers, so the driving habits of anyone who drives your vehicle will be considered when calculating your discounts.

What if I sell my car or get a new one?

No problem. Give us a call at 1-888-234-3247 and we’ll help set up your new vehicle.

What if my car is being serviced?

If your vehicle is in a repair shop, the device may need to be removed temporarily for diagnostics. Please make sure it is plugged back in as soon as service is completed. If your Plug’n SAVE device will be removed for more than 30 days, please contact us so we can help you keep your discounts.

What if I put my vehicle in storage?

If you are planning to store your vehicle for a period longer than 30 days, give us a call at 1-888-234-3247 so we can help you keep your discounts on renewal.
